Pain Management

Chronic pain may have a number of complex causes and therefore difficult to manage. This requires a collaborative approach and customized treatment protocols to meet specific patient needed. Optimal treatment could involve medications that possess pain reliving properties including anti-depressants, anticonvulsants anti-arrhythmics, anesthetics nmda (n-methyl-d-aspartate) antagonists e.g. dextromethophan and ketamine can block pain transmission in dorsal horn spinal neurons thus reduce nociception and decrease need for opiod analgesics. Physicians can use smaller amounts of each medication when combined together to ameliorate pain. Nsaids can be formulated in a topical as a strategy to avoiding problems associated with the oral route.

We work with patients and their pain doctors to provide pain management. The dosage forms we typically make are tablet triturates, solutions, suspensions, creams, gels and suppositories.

Most of our pain management compounds are topicals, which can be applied directly to the skin and thus targeting the site of pain and discomfort.

Advantages of Topicals as drug delivery systems in Pain Management

  • High: concentration of drug is delivered to the site of action
  • Less: drug finds its way to other areas of the body.
  • Reduction: in systemic side-effects versus the oral route.
  • Avoidance: of drug interaction in the stomach.
  • Flexibility: in amounts and types of each medication
  • Tailored: to each patient’s needs.

  • Convenient for the elderly and young.
